Sommer Hansen
Sometimes God just lays certain people on my heart. People that He’s drawing to himself. Take, for example, my neighbor. We’re about as different as it gets. She’s probably in her 70’s. Her children are grown. She’s retired. She’s from Canada. Umm. That’s nothing like my life. But for some reason God has compelled me to build a friendship with her. I know He desires a relationship with her.
Do you have people in your life like that?
Sometimes in my prayer time, I just try to get still. Hear God instead of chatting away with my list of requests. I found that the things He prompts me to do are often the least intuitive for me. I’m a list kind of person. A check-off-the-list kind-of person. I like efficiency, organization, cause and effective. The longer I’ve lived in this world the more I see - people aren’t like that. They’re messy. They take time. They’re seldom predictable. So, it’s easy to move people to the back of the list.
That’s where God stops, patiently waits until I ask, and then says, “Remember that commandment. You know the one, Sommer. Love thy neighbor as thyself.”
“Ah, yes. I seem to remember that one,” I say sheepishly.
Suddenly, I see His priority. People. People are God’s priority. My list is important to God, but the hearts of His children are the most important. He’s called me to care, too. He’s called me to care as if it were me.
If I were hurting and lost, I would want someone to share Jesus with me. I would want someone to love me, to invest time in me, to not give up. Wouldn’t you?
So here’s what I’m asking. Would you pray about those women in your life right now? Who needs to know Jesus? Who’s stuck in religion but has no relationship? Who’s hurting and doesn’t know the Prince of Peace? Invite them to the spa morning.
We’re incorporating some really powerful evangelism tools, but I promise you. We’re not hitting anyone over the head with tracks. This is friendship evangelism. (Hint. You’re the friend!) We’ll provide you with some open doors but you have to walk through them. First, you just have to invite them.
So, quiet yourself before God. Tuck away your list, and see who God’s calling you to love.
Blessings,
Sommer
